I will tell you where all the key elements are located in Chapter 8, Drowned District, of Ninja Gaiden 4. This is an interesting part of the game in which there will be no final boss battle. But this chapter is no less saturated with battles and interesting places. You can find a description of the previous chapter, called Altar of the Mountain God, in another article on the website.

So in this chapter, you will learn:

Capture Gourdy in Drowned District

First, as soon as the chapter begins, turn right. Go forward and you will see a blue Gourdy that you need to catch. Just wait until he has his back to you, and then you can run up and grab him. If you don’t succeed on the first try, move away and come back. Gourdy will reappear and you will catch him.

Divine Life Elixir (chest 1)

Now you can climb the stairs of the main path. Ahead, you will see the first chest. Open it to get the Divine Life Elixir. After that, there will be another staircase on the left that will lead you to the first DarkNest Terminal. Here you need to accept three new additional quests, as well as replenish your health potions if you used them up in the boss battle in the previous chapter. It will also be useful to go to the Tyran menu and study Combat skills.

For example, the second level of Art of Adornment will increase the number of slots for accessories. I also recommend learning a new weapon technique, such as Aftershock Dance. This will make future battles with enemies easier for you.

Defeat 20 Fiends and Incense of Rebirth (chest 2)

Next, using Caddis Wire, you will jump onto a platform where you will encounter new enemies for the first time. Ashen Pipes resemble small sharks. Your new weapon, Magatsuhi, is ideal for destroying them. In this location, you will complete the side quest Defeat 20 Fiends by destroying all enemies that attack you.

Jump further to the gap in the large vertical pipe. This place is illuminated by a blue glow. Here, after moving to the platform above, you will encounter Ashen Pipe again. After defeating them, move along the yellow wall to the side to another platform, where you will have to defeat Ashen Pipe again. Eventually, as you move along the pipes, you will find yourself on a platform where you will see a large crack in the vertical pipe on the right. We will go there a little later, but for now, turn around and jump to the platform below.

Follow the route I show you and you will find yourself in a secret place where several Ashen Pipes guard a second treasure chest. After defeating them, open the chest to get Incense of Rebirth. It’s a valuable reward, so don’t miss this place.

Kongou Iron Brew (chest 3)

Next, return along the familiar path to the area where you saw the crack in the wall on the right. This time, follow this path. There will be no enemies on your way. You just need to move skillfully using the Caddis Wire. Through the breach, you will come to an area where you need to turn left. You will see the third chest in front of you. Open this chest to receive Kongou Iron Brew as a reward.

Divine Life Elixir (chest 4)

Continue on your way and destroy all enemies in your path until you reach this location. Here, you need to use Caddis Wire to jump onto the pole and from there jump onto the platform. On the left side of the platform, you will see the fourth chest. Inside the chest, you will find the Divine Life Elixir.

DarkNest Terminal

Next, you will jump onto a platform with a closed door in front of you. Enemies await you on this platform. After defeating them, you will be able to approach the second DarkNest Terminal located here and complete the side quest Defeat 20 Fiends. Immediately after that, another side quest, Use Magatsuhi to Defeat 15 Eltus Fish Fiends, will appear. You need to accept it before moving on.

Rejuvenation Elixir (chest 5)

Open the door and move forward. You will need to go down the ramp several times. Along the way, you will encounter enemies that you will need to deal with. Before the next large closed door, there will be another group of enemies. After defeating them, before opening the door, turn back and find the fifth chest to get the Rejuvenation Elixir. It’s simple, and I’m sure you can handle it without any problems.

Disco and new enemies in Drowned District

Open the door and you will see something called a disco for the first time. There is loud music playing, a bright dance floor, and lots of new enemies having fun and dancing. Your task is to inform them that the party is over. About halfway through the battle, a new phenomenon will appear. It is a portal in the form of a shark’s mouth that teleports new enemies to you. You must destroy this teleport first, and then deal with the remaining enemies.

Life Elixir (chest 6)

Leave the disco after your victory and jump down outside the door. Immediately after that, turn around and look back. There you will see the sixth chest. Bright traces lead to it on the floor. The chest contains Life Elixir. Even if you have a full supply of it, converting it to NinjaCoin won’t hurt.

Crimson Blood Pellets (chest 7)

Next, you will descend a spiral staircase. On the landing, after defeating a new type of enemy, you will be able to open the seventh chest. In the chest, you will find Crimson Blood Pellets.

Execute the Otherworldly Messengers

Continue down the spiral staircase and when it ends, turn left. You will see a pipe that you can grab onto and jump forward. Moving forward, you will jump into a room where you will complete a side quest called Execute the Otherworldly Messengers. This is a group of enhanced Draugr that can cause you problems.

They are similar in principle to the Oni you already know. It is easy to deal with them individually, but it is quite difficult with a group. I tried to get away from them, charge my attack while they were approaching, and then destroy the enemies one by one. You will receive a Rigid Seal Case for completing this quest when you turn it in at the next DarkNest Terminal.

Incense of Rebirth (chest 8)

Return to the place where the spiral staircase ends and now go in the other direction. You will encounter new enemies that resemble a pack of dogs. After defeating them, go forward and turn left, slip under the metal grate, and you will find yourself in a place where the eighth chest and a few more enemies are located. The chest contains Incense of Rebirth. I highly recommend not missing this chest.

Pond Strider

Next, you must return to the local disco and finish this underground bacchanalia. You know what to do, and this battle should not cause you any problems. There is no chest here, so after victory, we move on. After your victory, when you leave the disco, you will find the third DarkNest Terminal.

Here you will receive a new item, Pond Strider, which will allow you to move quickly across water. I also recommend completing the Execute the Otherworldly Messengers quest and receiving your reward. For completing this side quest, you will receive a Rigid Seal Case.

Use Magatsuhi to Defeat 15 Eltus Fish Fiends

Next, I suggest you use your Pond Strider. After gliding across the water, you will find yourself on an intermediate platform where you will need to destroy enemies. Continue on, and after following a similar route on the next platform, you will complete the quest Use Magatsuhi to Defeat 15 Eltus Fish Fiends. Therefore, do not avoid this battle, as you will receive a decent reward for it.

Find the Antiquated Currency (chest 9)

Moving forward on Pond Strider, you will find yourself in a room where you will see a familiar portal and a large number of enemies. Destroy the portal, then turn around and you will see another portal in the opposite corner. You must destroy this portal as well, along with all the enemies that are there.

After that, you will find the ninth chest in the place where the second portal was. Opening it will complete the side quest Find the Antiquated Currency in the Drowned District.

Life Elixir (chest 10) Rejuvenation Elixir (chest 11)

Now you can move on. Open the metal door and enter the room. Here, on the left, you will see a group of enemies. Of course, you need to destroy them all in order to safely open the two chests. In the tenth chest, you will find Life Elixir, and in the eleventh, Rejuvenation Elixir.

Purgatory Gate in Drowned District

From this point, turn right. Here, use Flying Bird Flip to climb to the second floor. Next, go through two rooms and use Pond Strider to reach the entrance to Purgatory Gate. The Purgatory Gate trial in the Drowned District consists of only one wave of enemies. But there will be many of them. In general, you should have no problems completing this activity. There are no difficult enemies here. Therefore, if you are skilled enough with your characters, you can safely choose a more difficult level at the start to get a decent reward after victory.

The final battle in Drowned District

Now go back to the room where you found the two chests and move forward along a different path. Here you will have to cover a long distance using the Pond Strider. It won’t be just a boring walk. You will need to dodge rocks, jump over obstacles, and dive under overhanging obstacles.

You will do all this to minimize damage on this route. After all, a big final battle awaits you ahead. You will see a huge shark running away from you on the platform. You will meet it in the next chapter. But now you need to defeat a large number of enemies.

Here you will find all the types of enemies you have seen in this chapter. The most unpleasant ones will be the teleports, which must be destroyed first. Eventually, you will defeat all the enemies. Next, you need to break the screen in front of you, and you will move on to the next chapter.
