Today is the next monster in the game Monster Hunter Wilds. This time, we are hunting a powerful creature that terrifies the settlement. We will compete with Alpha Doshaguma. Today we will talk about what to expect from this giant and how to deal with it. In our previous article on Monster Hunter Wilds, we took a look at the Balahara monster.
Doshaguma Overview and Physical Description
Doshaguma is a large monster with a bear-like gait. It is covered in thick golden-brown fur, with the area surrounding the back of its skull and the peak of its spine being noticeably shaggier and similar in appearance to a lion’s mane. Similar to Arzuros, Doshaguma has armored forelegs and bear-like paws and claws, though not as heavily armored as the former’s with only several small scutes and bumps being present.
Its face is wrinkled, slightly reddish in hue and completely devoid of fur, with two large oval-shaped bony pads on the top of its cranium. Its eyes are noticeably smaller than any other monsters. It also possesses distinctive tusk-like canines on both jaws, with the tusks on the lower jaw protruding upwards being slightly larger in comparison. Its tail is long and covered in flowing brown fur as well. It seems to be similar in size to another Fanged Beast, Goss Harag.
Alpha Doshaguma Variant
Alpha Doshagumas are noticeably larger, more aggressive and more powerful, with faces that are a brighter shade of red as well as having thicker reddish colored manes.
Doshaguma Ecology and Behavior
Doshaguma are said to be very aggressive and territorial. It is also found in a wide-range of habitats. Despite these aggressive traits, Doshaguma can actually form small packs and attack their enemies as a group, usually with a single alpha and two subordinates. The reason why is yet unknown, though it could be seen as a protective measure against rival predators in the ecosystem. They can additionally stand on their hind legs and roar loudly, akin to other Fanged Beasts, to appear larger and more threatening to their opponents.

Doshaguma Battle Guide and Combat Style
Doshaguma in battle mainly rely on their brute strength, using their powerful claws and paws to swipe, slash and smash opponents to the ground. Along with biting opponents with their fangs, they also like to charge at hunters with their jaws wide open to try and devour them. Doshaguma can also pick up and throw the corpses of their prey at hunters as an additional attack, often times, spikeless Ceratonoths.
Alpha Doshaguma Weaknesses and How to Defeat It
Alpha Doshaguma is near the conclusion of Chapter One’s ‘Hunter’s Pride’ Quest. Your health and your inventory will likely have been affected by the monster you hunted just before. However, you can prepare to make it easier.
Alpha Doshaguma Preparation Guide
You can prepare for your fight against Alpha Doshaguma without fainting.
Gather any herbs that you pass. If your crafting settings are set up to automatically create potions of health (this should be the default setting), then gathering herbs will instantly produce potions of health and add them to your Inventory. When facing Alphas, health is wealth.
Find and collect any item. – If you have set the crafting of an object to automatic, you can instantly turn certain materials into useful items.
Save Your Game We highly recommend that you save your game manually as soon as possible, in the event of a system failure or if you want to go back to an earlier version. Imagine putting in all that effort to defeat this Alpha only to lose it just before you are about to defeat it.
Learn to control your Seikret, and attack from it. Using your Seikret to trap the Alpha Doshaguma is crucial to success.
You can prepare in advance if your quest is re-started. Save the majority of them for Alpha Doshaguma, and not Balahara.
Stuff your pockets with health potions. You can’t beat Doshaguma without being alive.
Alpha Doshaguma Elemental Weakness
Make sure to stock up on Fire and Thunder elements. This beast is vulnerable to Fire or Thunder attacks.
- Doshaguma attacks quickly and powerfully
- Be careful, Doshaguma is trying to bite
Best Items and Traps for Alpha Doshaguma
Buy Flash Pods & Shock Traps – We discovered that both of these worked well to slow down the Alpha, allowing us to land high damage hits before it recovered.
Grab Large Barrel Bombs If you have some in your pocket, we suggest adding Large Barrel Bombs as well. These are easier to use when the Alpha is distracted by your Palico, but do significant damage.
Alpha Doshaguma Weak Spots and Damage Strategy
You can defeat Alpha Doshaguma by attacking its weak spots and luring it with lightning bolts. This will wear down its health to zero.
The weather can help you defeat the Alpha. Lightning bolts will strike the ground no matter where Alpha runs during the fight. These bolts can be your greatest ally.
You can tell where the bolt will strike by looking for small sparks on the ground.
When riding on your Seikret (without standing there yourself), lure the Alpha Doshaguma to these points and keep it in this area until you see the bolt. The bolt will cause significant damage if it hits the Alpha.
When it comes to using your environment, keep an eye on Great Thunderbugs and Stuntoads. Grab them using your grapple claw to activate the Great Thunderbugs. They will essentially electrocute nearby monsters and slow them briefly. Stuntoads can be activated in the same manner, however they will briefly paralyze the Alpha.
- Doshaguma is unconscious – time to inflict damage
- We set a trap for the monster Doshaguma
The Alpha Doshaguma is also vulnerable to attack when you rear up its legs.
The tail hair, and the two front legs, of the Alpha Doshaguma, are also breakable. Attacking these, and breaking them, will limit Doshaguma severely (as they inflict significant damage).
The Alpha can also be worn down by attacking the face, if done safely. The face was attacked with multiple charges using a bow.
Do not forget to Use Focus Mode when the Alpha Doshaguma appears to destroy any wounds.
Alpha Doshaguma Turf War and Other Monsters
During this battle, you might come across another monster of great size, called the Rey Dau. You can try to attract the Alpha Doshaguma toward the Rey Dau, and get out of their way once they meet. The two should engage in battle, the Rey Dau dealing more damage to the Alpha.
This is a great opportunity for you to replenish your health or set up a trap, such as a Large Barrel Bomb. You could also attack Alpha at this time. Be careful not to be spotted by the Rey Dau. Otherwise, you will have two big problems.
Other monsters will also appear in your battle and can be used (like the Balahara), but the Rey Dau caused the greatest damage.
Seikret Combat Tips for Alpha Doshaguma
I recommend using your Seikret to attack the Alpha if you are having difficulty dodging its attacks. From the back, you’ll have more mobility and can move away quickly from the Alpha if you want to gain some health.
