Groans in the Valley in the game Nioh 3 will automatically be unlocked after defeating Takeda Shingen and completing Tiger’s Cause. This sub-mission can be started through the Battle Scroll at any shrine.

Nioh 3 Groans in the Valley – The Quick Way to the Boss

It’s simple at first: you need to climb down the ladder and then enter the cave. There will be a few enemies here, whom you’ll easily defeat. Next, as you exit the cave, you’ll find yourself in a multi-story wooden structure. There are also enemies on different levels here, as well as loot. You won’t find anything super valuable here, so I won’t dwell on it. If you want, explore all the levels of this structure on your own.

Your main task in this quest is to get to the first floor, as I’ll show you. This is where the main events take place. First, you’ll need to defeat waves of Grudge Spirits. These are the red spirits you should already be familiar with. There will be a lot of them – about 15 over several waves. Once you’ve defeated them all, the main mission “Groans in the Valley” will appear. This is Kamaitachi, and it will be your second encounter with this boss.

Kamaitachi 2nd encounter boss fight

If you defeated Kamaitachi fairly easily the first time, you’ll be surprised at how much harder it will be in this encounter. Of course, it all depends on the tactics you choose for this battle. As is usually the case, I’m using only ninjas and Ninja Tools. At this stage of the game, I haven’t unlocked the powerful Ninja Tools abilities yet, and I don’t have any active magic skills that can attack Kamaitachi from a distance.

So the main problem for me was the limited space. There was very little room for safe maneuvering. Every time I dodged, I ran into some kind of obstacle. In addition, vertical obstacles often stood between me and the boss, preventing me from consistently throwing my projectiles. With limited space, it was quite difficult for me to control the fight in the way I usually do. After using all my Ninja tools, I activated my ultimate ability. I jump and perform a heavy attack. This combo deals a lot of damage to the enemy. So I repeat it until my ultimate ability gauge runs out. In this fight, I have Fire Shuriken, Pinwheel Shuriken, and Kunai active.

After using these items, it would probably be better to replace the Pinwheel Shuriken with something else, even a regular shuriken. After all, the Pinwheel Shuriken misses very often and doesn’t attack the boss from behind, even if I wanted it to. For me, the location of our battle with Kamaitachi has truly become a worthy challenge.

That said, it’s worth noting that Kamaitachi’s attacks and movements are exactly the same as what you saw in the first battle. There are no surprises here. So if you’re having trouble with this opponent, you need to calm down and start anticipating the boss’s moves. All of his attacks are easy to predict once you know what’s coming next. You’ll know when to pause and when to dodge instantly. My success in the battle against Kamaitachi lies in studying his attacks and having the Evade skill. That’s enough to defeat the boss. Also, don’t forget that you can return to this quest later, once you have more powerful skills in your arsenal.
