In 2025, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis was officially announced at The Game Awards — a full remake of the first game in the Tomb Raider series from 1996, created by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Polish studio Flying Wild Hog and published by Amazon Games.

It is a single-player action-adventure game that returns Lara Croft to her very first major expedition, but completely reimagined for modern platforms — PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) — on the Unreal Engine 5 with modern visual effects and level design.

The plot retains its classic structure: the player, as Lara Croft, embarks on a global journey in search of the legendary artifact, the Scion, scattered across the world. To collect all the pieces, you will have to traverse the hellish jungles of Peru, ancient Greek ruins, Egyptian deserts, and a mysterious island in the Mediterranean Sea.

The gameplay combines platforming, complex puzzles, and tactical combat: Lara uses her classic dual pistols, as well as other ancient and modern weapons, to fight enemies and overcome mechanical traps.

The levels are designed to evoke the spirit of the original game, but with deeper interaction with the environment, modern physics, and new surprises that couldn’t have been possible in 1996.

The remake also adds a modern pace, greater freedom of movement, and more spectacular presentation of adventures, while retaining the core elements that made Tomb Raider an icon of the genre — exploration, risk, discovery, and puzzles.

The game will be released in 2026, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the series, and is intended to be both an introduction for new players and a nostalgic return for veterans of the franchise.
