Most players sail past these spots without a second glance, but the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced unmarked islands scattered across the map hold some of the best environmental storytelling in the whole game. Each one has an Animus Key waiting, plus data fragments, gold, and the kind of small self contained stories that most people will simply never read because nobody marks these places for you. I went and found eleven of them, and I want to walk you through every single one, coordinates included.
Bookmark this guide before you head out, because you’ll want to come back to it as you work your way around the Caribbean picking these off one by one.
Grab the Lodestone Before You Start Island Hopping
Here’s a tip before you go anywhere: buy the Lodestone. This trinket automatically loots anything lootable near you as you walk, so gold and resources just flow into your pockets while you explore. You’ll find it at the general store on your home island of Great Inagua, available once you’ve put a bit of work into your Great Inagua hideout upgrades, and it runs 7,000 Reales at Upgrade Level 2. On a small island packed with crates and chests, that trinket alone saves you a lot of manual looting, and every Animus Key you pick up along the way is 30 Keys toward the Animus Hub Exchange, not just one.
Lovers’ Island
I call this one Lovers’ Island because of the story tucked into it. Loot the box near the shore, then head up to where two lovers are talking. The man is taking his fiancee back to England so they can start a life together, but a data fragment nearby reveals there’s more to it. Her father fled England years earlier over some kind of family trouble, and now she’s the one going back, hoping nobody there still holds a grudge. It’s a small, self contained story that most players will never stumble onto, and there’s a key and a data fragment to grab on the way in. You’ll find Lovers’ Island at coordinates 498, 89.
Fort Battle Island
This one is the site of an ongoing scrap between the Spanish and the British over a fort that honestly isn’t worth fighting for. Spanish troops hold the island in numbers, so expect some fighting or assassinating before you can climb up for the key and the loot at the top. What sells the scene is the naval battle happening in the background the whole time, cannons going off between ships while you work through the fort. If naval combat like that is your thing, our legendary ships guide covers every one of the game’s toughest galleons and how to actually sink them. Around the fort you’ll also find crates with spice, cloth, and other resources, plus workers who somehow keep going about their business while you clear the place out. Fort Battle Island sits at 262, 385.

Union Jack Island
Ubisoft clearly motion captured a proper argument for this one. Two pirates are fighting over gold looted off dead British and Spanish soldiers washed up on the beach, and it’s pure scavenger’s luck since you don’t have to fight anyone to grab your share. There’s an Animus Key here too, and the giant British flag planted on the beach is honestly the reason I remember this island at all. Head to 410, 361 to find it.
Royal Vengeance Island
The shoe is on the other foot here. Dark stains cover the ground, a man hangs from a tree, and a note pinned to a nearby post explains why: it’s signed by a Royal Navy captain and warns pirates what happens when the English catch them. Further into the island you’ll find more pirate bodies and a blue crate loaded with tobacco and spice, along with a few more crates scattered around. There’s no Animus Key on this one, but the gold and resources make the stop worthwhile anyway. Royal Vengeance Island is located at 624, 49.

Guardian Temple Island
This island holds Mayan ruins guarded by an angry crocodile. You can fight it head on, or load the blowpipe with a sleeping dart and skip the drama, which also makes it much easier to skin afterward. If you’re hunting animals regularly, a trinket that doubles the resources you get from skins and bones is worth carrying, especially since pirate skin changes your crew’s look to pirate bones. There’s an Animus Key waiting at the end, and you can sail off from here straight back to your ship. Guardian Temple Island sits at 118, 77.
Crab Island
I’ve never seen this many crabs in one place in the game, and there’s a clear reason for it: dozens of bodies scattered around, with the crabs feasting on what’s left. It’s morbid, but it’s exactly the kind of detail that makes these unmarked islands worth finding in the first place. There’s loot stacked on loot here, and after a short bit of platforming you’ll land 30 Keys toward the Animus Store. Crab Island is at 74, 182.

Jellyfish Cove Island
What makes this one different is what’s under the water, not on top of it. You’ll get an Animus Key on the island itself, but the real prize is in the cove below, where dozens of jellyfish guard two separate underwater chests, one of which isn’t even marked on the map. Avoid the stings if you can and you’ll walk away with a solid 1,000 gold between the two chests, plus 30 Keys. Jellyfish Cove Island is located at 250, 265.
Feral Hogs Island
A ship carrying livestock apparently ran aground here, and the crew didn’t survive the wreck, but the pigs did, and they’re now feeding on the bodies scattered along the shore. It’s a genuinely well built piece of environmental storytelling, one of those moments where the game trusts you to piece the backstory together instead of spelling it out. Climb up the wrecked ship before you leave for the Animus Keys sitting near the top. Feral Hogs Island is at 380, 479.

Archaeologist’s Island
Here you’ll find NPCs digging through ruins for treasure, and you might as well join them. Blue crates near the dig site hand out resources like tobacco, and one exhausted digger has clearly earned his cigarette and bottle of rum. The real payoff is underwater near the ruins: one chest surrounded by a school of fish holds jewelry, silver bracelets, and a silver plate worth around 600 gold, and a second nearby chest adds another 1,000. That’s close to 1,600 gold from two chests alone, on top of whatever your gold farm routine already brings in. Don’t leave without doing the short parkour section through the old ruins either. Archaeologist’s Island is at 741, 75.
Gravestone Island
Fog and a shipwreck that looks unmistakably like a giant headstone give this island its name. Bodies and wreckage are everywhere, and crates scattered around are worth looting for gold and resources on your way through. Follow the water path through the mangroves and you’ll land another 30 Keys. Two flags planted nearby tell you the British and Spanish fought over this place and both sides lost, and a final chest tucked away holds 1,000 reales for your trouble. Gravestone Island sits at 708, 288.
Plague Island
Unlike most of the other unmarked islands on this list, the bodies here show no signs of a fight, no blood, nothing. In the 17th and 18th century Caribbean, with no inoculations and no treatment for disease, that’s a grim way to go, and it’s the only real explanation the island offers. Loot the crates scattered around and climb up for the Animus Key waiting at the top. The coordinates for Plague Island are 361, 174.

Why Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Unmarked Islands Are Worth the Detour
None of these Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced unmarked islands show up as objectives, and that’s exactly what makes them worth the detour. Every Animus Key you collect stacks toward the Animus Hub Exchange, which trades Keys for legacy gear from earlier games rather than anything tied to normal Black Flag Resynced progression, and it’s worth checking our guide to hidden finishers and legacy outfits once you’ve got a decent stockpile saved up. Keys also carry across your Ubisoft account, so anything you bank here on these islands adds to your balance if you’re also playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Beyond the loot, these are some of the most confidently written throwaway moments in the game, little stories nobody had to build but somebody clearly wanted to tell anyway.
Black Flag Resynced Unmarked Islands FAQ
How many unmarked islands are in Black Flag Resynced?
There are far more than the eleven covered here. This list focuses on the ones with the strongest environmental storytelling and the best loot for the time it takes to clear them, but the map has plenty more scattered around the Caribbean.
What do Animus Keys actually do?
Animus Keys are the currency for the Animus Hub Exchange, a store separate from normal progression that sells legacy outfits and weapons pulled from earlier Assassin’s Creed games. Every pickup on an unmarked island hands you 30 Keys at once, not a single Key, so a few islands add up fast.
Where do I buy the Lodestone trinket?
The Lodestone is sold at the general store on Great Inagua once you’ve reached Upgrade Level 2, for 7,000 Reales. It auto loots nearby corpses and curios as you walk, which makes clearing these islands noticeably faster.
Do these islands respawn their loot?
No. Once you’ve cleared the crates, chests, and Animus Key on a given island, that island is done. There’s no reason to revisit unless you’re hunting for something you missed the first time.
What’s the fastest way to find these hidden islands myself?
Sail slightly off the main shipping lanes between marked locations and keep an eye on the horizon for glowing white cubes, that’s the Animus Key marker visible from a distance even before the island itself renders in fully.
