We’re back at Shipbreaker for round two, and this time it’s Domain #7 on Nightmare, which plays completely differently from the Domain #4 run I covered before. This Shipbreaker Domain Nightmare walkthrough covers the perks I bought with MODcoins before stepping in, the exact Naoe build I leaned on, the four Domain Daisho fights, and the brutal four wave final battle against Yuki no Kata. Honestly, the layout and the regular enemies inside Shipbreaker aren’t what make this one rough. Nightmare difficulty is what turns every single enemy into something closer to a mini boss, and that changes how you have to play from the very first step.
If you got lost anywhere in this location, I already walked through the correct route in my guide to the Shipbreaker Domain’s fourth run, so keep that open in another tab if the layout throws you off. Bookmark this page too, since Nightmare difficulty is unforgiving enough that you’ll probably want to check back mid fight.
Best Perks and MODcoins to Buy Before the Shipbreaker Domain Nightmare Run
Before you even load into this Domain, spend some time in the Exploit Tree. Killing Daisho, Ronin, and Guardian enemies inside Domains hands you MODcoins, and the bonuses you buy with them in the Exploit Tree are shared between Naoe and Yasuke, with prices running anywhere from 750 up to 4000 MODcoins depending on the tier. I put most of my coins into the perks that boost katana damage and speed up adrenaline regeneration, because on Nightmare you’ll be leaning on abilities far more than basic attacks.
I also grabbed a couple of perks that increase how many consumable chests spawn around the map, since food and healing items are scarce once you’re a few waves deep. Don’t spread your MODcoins too thin here. Pick the two or three perks that support your build directly and commit to them, because respeccing later costs more coins than you’ll want to spend mid run.
Naoe Katana Build for Assassin’s Creed Shadows Domain 7
My build is built entirely around the katana, so I maxed out every katana skill for a 120% damage increase before touching this Domain. The one gear change worth mentioning is the epic trinket Bear Carving, which I picked up after finishing the Black Tides quest against Nirmala and Eamon Hathaway. It’s a small piece of gear, but it made a noticeable difference once I started stacking it with my katana skills. Tidal Wave and Eviscerate are the two abilities carrying this entire build. Tidal Wave is a fast dash strike worth 25% ability damage that leaves the enemy Vulnerable, and with the right Katana Mastery upgrades it can chain up to three times in a row and mark several enemies at once.
Eviscerate is the payoff, a heavier hit worth 75% ability damage that also shoves the target back, which doubles as breathing room when a fight gets crowded. Earning enough Knowledge points to boost that damage further matters just as much as the gear itself, so don’t skip grinding for those before you attempt Nightmare. If you want to see a different take on a katana focused Naoe build, I go through another setup in my Red Moon Domain walkthrough, and the core ideas carry over here too.

Why Stealth Beats Combat on Nightmare Difficulty in the Shipbreaker Domain
From the very first fight, it’s obvious what Nightmare difficulty actually means. Every enemy feels like a separate boss. The damage you deal is so small that fighting a group head on turns into an extremely difficult task, and that’s exactly why you need to plan your route through the level around assassinations instead of open fights. That’s the only fast way to remove enemies here. This lines up with how Nightmare is built under the hood: enemy AI coordinates more aggressively, detection and patrol routes are sharper, and loot chests hand out fewer rations and less ammunition, so every resource you find matters more than it did on lower difficulties.
If you get spotted, don’t engage. Run to a safe spot, break line of sight, and let yourself recover before sneaking back in to take out the next target. It’s a slower way to play, but it’s genuinely interesting once you get into the rhythm. You end up planning every move and every attack carefully so you can get through a section without taking any damage at all.
How to Beat the Four Domain Daisho Before the Final Fight
Partway through this run I hit the second Domain Daisho (some players spell it Dashio, but Daisho is the correct in game term), and I decided to lure him all the way to the final arena before engaging. There’s plenty of open space there and nothing in the way, so I wanted to test how a clean one on one fight would go from start to finish. It was rough. I cut the fight down heavily in the video so it wouldn’t drag, but in reality the damage I was dealing was so minimal that the battle went on for a long time.
My skills weren’t strong enough yet to drop a Daisho in one clean hit, so I always had to chip away at several health bars in direct combat. That’s why it matters so much to clear out the regular enemies near a Daisho before you engage him. If backup shows up mid fight, retreat and come back later instead of trying to fight through it. Once all four Domain Daisho were down, I felt a lot more confident heading into the final battle, even though I was still nervous about it. If you want to see how a different Domain boss plays out, I cover a similar single target fight in my Broken Sky Domain walkthrough against Momochi Sandayu.

Shipbreaker Domain Nightmare Walkthrough: Surviving All Four Waves of the Final Battle
The final battle throws four waves of enemies at you, and each one is noticeably harder than the last. The first wave is only one enemy, but even he can deal serious damage if you underestimate him. My rotation here is simple: open with Tidal Wave, follow with Eviscerate, then immediately retreat and keep moving until Tidal Wave’s cooldown is back. The second wave brings two enemies, and the trick is watching the second one’s actions while you’re focused on the first. Pick a target, run the same Tidal Wave into Eviscerate combo, but the moment the second enemy gets close, break off your attack and step aside. His hits can’t be blocked or ignored, even mid ability, so this constant willingness to disengage is the real key to surviving as Naoe in this fight.
The third wave puts three enemies on you at once, and this is where things get serious. You’ll also notice a semi transparent enemy firing at you from range with a bow. Try to stay behind him or off to his side so his shots miss. The real priority in this wave is Yuki no Kata, and I’ll go deeper on her in the next section, but the short version is that Tidal Wave is the only ability that reliably works against her. The fourth and final wave is a carbon copy of the third with one extra enemy added, and by this point you’ll likely be low on food to restore health. It’s not harder in any new way, it’s just longer, so stick to the exact same plan you used in wave three and you’ll get through it.
How to Beat Yuki no Kata in the Domain Gauntlet
Yuki no Kata is the toughest fight in this whole Domain. She attacks from range with a naginata and jumps into area of effect strikes that punish you for looking away, so if you’re busy fighting another enemy while she’s active, you will get hit. Attack her first, before anyone else in the wave. She actively dodges Tidal Wave, but she still takes damage from it even when she slips away, and every dodge she makes buys you a few meters of distance from the rest of the group, which is exactly what you want.
This is a long process. I trimmed the footage down for the video, but in reality I spent a serious amount of time chipping away at her with nothing but Tidal Wave while running from the crowd around her. One detail worth knowing: she sometimes uses her jumping attack once, and sometimes twice in a row. Wait until she’s fired off the second one before you commit to an attack, because trying to punish her after the first cast usually eats a hit from the follow up. This was my fifth attempt at this fight after four losses, and once Yuki no Kata finally went down, the rest of wave four felt almost easy by comparison.
I know Yasuke handles this Domain challenge more comfortably, but I wanted to finish it specifically as Naoe, landing short strikes and retreating immediately so my adrenaline stayed topped up for Tidal Wave and Eviscerate. That patience is really the whole story of this Shipbreaker Domain Nightmare walkthrough. Nothing here rewards rushing. I’m already curious what Domain #8 looks like, and once I’ve cleared it I’ll cover it the same way, alongside the rest of the endgame content Ubisoft has been adding for Domains in its recent updates.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Shipbreaker Domain
What is the Shipbreaker Domain in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
The Shipbreaker Domain is a repeatable challenge location in Assassin’s Creed Shadows where you fight through waves of enemies and Domain Daisho for MODcoins and gear. The same location can generate multiple Domain runs at rising difficulty, which is why Domain #4 and Domain #7 both take place at Shipbreaker but play out very differently.
Where do I find Yuki no Kata in the Shipbreaker Domain gauntlet?
Yuki no Kata shows up as one of the enemies in the third and fourth waves of the final battle inside this Shipbreaker Domain Nightmare run. She’s easy to spot because of her naginata and her jumping area of effect attack, and she should always be your first target in the wave she appears in.
What is the best Naoe build for Nightmare Domains?
A katana build centered on Tidal Wave and Eviscerate, backed by gear that speeds up adrenaline regeneration, holds up best against Nightmare’s damage reduction. Maxing katana skills for the 120% damage bonus and picking up Knowledge points early makes the whole run noticeably more manageable.
How many waves are in the Shipbreaker Domain final battle?
Four waves. The enemy count climbs from one, to two, to three, to four, with Yuki no Kata joining from the third wave onward as the toughest opponent in the fight.
Is Naoe harder than Yasuke for Nightmare Domain challenges?
Naoe generally takes longer because her damage output relies on ability cooldowns and precise retreats rather than raw power, while Yasuke can tank and trade hits more directly. Both can clear the Shipbreaker Domain on Nightmare, but Naoe demands more patience and positioning.
